The Indian cricket governing body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has allegedly given a firm directive to its players who are not involved in international commitments or undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. The BCCI insists that all physically fit players, who are not part of the senior national team, must participate in the Ranji Trophy representing their respective teams. This decision has been made by the Indian board amidst the ongoing discussions regarding the situation of wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan, who despite being fit, has shown reluctance to participate in the Ranji Trophy.

Ishan, who left the South Africa tour due to mental fatigue, has not participated in any competitive cricket matches since then. His most recent appearance was during a practice session with his Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya, at the Reliance Stadium.

Despite receiving instructions from Team India head coach Rahul Dravid to engage in “some form of cricket,” Ishan persists in following his own set of rules. According to reports, the player opted to train in Baroda instead of representing his state team, Jharkhand, in the Ranji Trophy. This decision is said to have caused dissatisfaction among many individuals within the BCCI.

Following the directive issued by the BCCI, Ishan, who is currently undergoing training in Baroda, is anticipated to participate in the match between his home state Jharkhand and Rajasthan in Jamshedpur.

Similarly, players such as Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar, who have not yet played in Ranji Trophy matches, are also expected to comply with the directive. This rule is applicable to senior players like Shreyas Iyer as well, who was not selected for the last three Tests against England.

According to a source quoted by Cricbuzz, it is emphasized that players cannot solely prioritize international cricket or the IPL. They are required to make themselves available for domestic cricket and fulfill their commitments to their respective state teams.

The board holds the view that certain players have been in IPL mode since January. Even Krunal Pandya was seen training with Hardik and Ishan in Baroda in recent weeks.
